EVENT DETAILS:

The New Researcher Forum, an initiative by the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation, offers a space to connect with peers across diverse fields, research interests and backgrounds in the area of rural research. The session will include the opportunity to learn from experienced researchers on topics such as academic publishing, knowledge mobilization, research funding, community engagement, and job markets. Participants are welcome to join in person or online and are encouraged to bring questions they may have to share during this informal networking event.

This free event is great for students and new researchers to make new connections and tap into the experience of senior scholars and field practitioners. Attendants will be able to ask questions about publishing papers, presenting at conferences, applying for grants, and working in the non-academic and academic fields.

In-person participants will meet in the Best Western North Bay Hotel and Conference Centre in a dedicated breakout room in a session led by Brady Reid, a Ph.D. candidate in Rural Studies at the University of Guelph. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

A virtual session will also be available for online participants only, led by Joelena Leader, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development (SEED) at the University of Waterloo. This session will not be hybrid with the in-person forum. Instead, it will be entirely online and happen concomitantly with the in-person session.

This event is entirely free and open to the public for both in-person and online attendants. Participants are not required to be registered for the Northern Directions conference to participate. However, participants need to register on this page and choose their method of attendance (in person or online).
